The milk tea craze has taken over the Philippines; everywhere we go there’s a milk tea shop or a group of people drinking milk tea. Numerous milk tea shops have already opened in order to satisfy the cravings of consumers, and they never fail to captivate the hearts and taste buds of their patrons. In social media, users are also posting their daily dose of milk tea, sharing to the world that they already purchased their most favorite drink. Everyone is so fascinated with their milk tea that they are willing to wait in long queue just to avail one.
Milk tea has become a staple drink for most of the Filipinos. That’s why the recent polls created by TrendSeekers, a start-up organization that seeks to know the trends in the market, focused on the growing trend of milk tea consumption in the Philippines. The flash polls were made in order to know the reactions and thoughts of milk tea drinkers regarding the different topics concerning milk teas, which they love.
The first poll posted talked about consumers’ milk tea consumption preference. One registered nutritionist dietitian mentioned on national television that a person should only have one large milk tea intake per week to avoid acquiring too much sugar that could lead to Diabetes. With that information, TrendSeekers came up with a poll to ask if they are still willing to continue with their regular amount of milk tea consumption or lessen it, given the news.
In the responses gathered from the first poll, 62% of the respondents answered that they will lessen their consumption of milk tea-guess they were leaning on being healthy-while the remaining 38% were still going to consume milk tea based on their preferred number. Guess they were not bothered with the news and will continue their mantra of milk tea is life amidst the health risks of drinking excessive milk tea.
The next poll that was posted asked milk tea lovers their least preferred milk tea brands. There were five (5) brands of milk tea that were used in the poll, namely: Chatime, Macao Imperial, Infinitea, CoCo, and Gong Cha. Three parameters were used for the respondents’ reference in identifying their least preferred milk tea brands. These parameters were: Affordability (the price range of the milk tea brands), Accessibility( the number of branches the brand has or they have stores in malls that is within Metro Manila), and Variety (if the brands offers variety of flavors for its customers).
Based on the results, 25 respondents chose Infinitea as their least preferred brand even though based on the parameters presented, Infinitea has the highest score in terms of the parameters given.
The third poll asked about the average monthly spending of a consumer when it comes to milk tea. From being priced less than a hundred peso (est. 65-90 pesos per cup) to becoming 120.00 Php a cup (estimate average), the milk tea craze in the country has experienced an increase in price for the past 11 years. Regardless of the price increase of milk tea over the years, many people are still into it, making the milk tea industry in the Philippines flourish even more.
The price range are: At least 120 pesos, 240-600 pesos, 720-1200 pesos, 1320-1800 pesos, and 1920-2400 pesos. Based on the results, majority of the respondents answered that they spend 240-600 pesos in average per month in purchasing their milk teas which is approximately 2-5 drinks per month.
Milk tea is a growing trend and it still is; more shops are opening in order to satisfy the cravings of their buyers and more flavors and varieties of milk tea are being launched in the market. Each shops have their own gimmicks for their products to be popular with customers. According to the results of the polls posted by TrendSeekers, it is apparent that milk tea will still be patronized by its consumers no matter how costly the price is, what brand would it be, or even if it concerns health matters. Even if people will lessen their consumption of milk tea per week, it is evident that they will still buy their drinks. We know you will too!
